RLM on 'Picard' Empty RLM on 'Picard'

The classic 2009 slogan that "it is easier to imagine an end to the world than an end to capitalism" (wiki/Capitalist_Realism:_Is_There_No_Alternative) should to be updated: "it is nearly impossible to imagine any future world that is not capitalistic."

Watching modern capitalism inject itself into Star Trek's utopian future is like watching an anaconda eat a tapir - a grotesque spectacle that some of us cannot turn away from.

"Gee - science fiction was fun when socialism had a real role in Western intellectual and cultural life. Roddenberry was an ex-cop yet had more authentic 'liberal' politics in his little toe than the last 30 years of Star Trek combined"
"Yeah, this snarky, grimdark violence-fest is soul-cancer. It's only 'star trek' in name."
"Yep"
"Yep"
"So what do want to watch next?

The US is in such cultural degeneration that Trekkies are pining for Voyager....

RLM on 'Picard' Empty Re: RLM on 'Picard'

Picard and his band of rag-tag lesbians and samurai must solve a new-age mystery about some ChiCom Romulan cultists vendetta against a house of androids determined to summon Space Cthulhu. Picard dies at the end but is download into an android that looks exactly the same and has the same mortality limit. Data hates immortality and begs for death, so Zombie-Picard kill him. Every one is smoking, drinking and murdering.

Is this right?

Perhaps the purpose of Picard was to be so bad that all previous Trek is now elevated.

This is the best review you'll get from a liberal perspective. The political message is: remember when Captains/Presidents were moral role-models not vile ego-manics.  The media message is: Make Picard Gay.

The deepest critique is that Patrick Stewart's control of the show was a disaster, and anyone who watched the 'dune buggy' footage from a earlier RLM review will not be surprised by this. Stewart forcing dune-buggies into a ST:NG movie script because of his passion of racing is not someone to allow near the creative process. Too bad Will Wheaton is such a corporate tool too.

RLM focus on the producers who ruined the show mean that is just one step away from being "anti-semetic" but Mike's soft liberalism prevents that. From Nimoy & Shatner to the Fergini to all the modern producer who ruined Star Trek as shown on RLM, there is a great article to be written on Star Trek and Jewishness.

The RLM folks are matured now. The 'south park' vulgarity and misogyny of 2008 has gone. It feels like a GenX cycle is complete. The coroner inquiries into Star Wars and Star Trek are finished.
