The Force Awakens

JJ Abrams did a great job, as he always does, of mimicking older, better filmmakers.

Terrible story, just a rehash of a new hope with the diversity dial cranked up to 11. (Girl Luke!, Black Stormtrooper!, Woman Stormtrooper! Female Yoda!) Yet another death star, by way of the XXXTREME 1990's!!! (Basically its just even bigger.), 'new' ship designs for the xwings, that Ralph McQuarrie actually designed in 1974... seriously? You set a movie 35 years later, and they are still flying xwings and tie fighters? Even the villain was an emo hipster version of Darth Vader- who apparently didn't get that Vaders mask wasn't a fashion choice, it was a walking life support system.

It was the cinematic equivalent of a 'greatest hits' album done by a tribute band or that old song by 'the odds'- 'someone who is cool'. Specifically the lyric:

'I'm a song (film) about a song (film) that once said (did) something new.'

<le sigh>

Another DeathStar sounds pretty weak - there were already pushing it with a 2nd Death Star in Return of the Jedi. Wasn't the Empire defeated - how can they still afford Death Stars?

The next movie should be about how the Empire is secretly controlled by a cartel that controls the engineering firms that keep getting all the Death Star contracts - and all the Rebel/Empire wars have been nothing except excuses to keep milking the Empire warchest for pointless Death Star building funds.
