Re: A Tear for Eddy
Crazy - I was going to post Funkadelic's awesome "Maggot Brain" in response to this, but now i realize this is a tribute to "Eddie" Hazel of Funkadelic!
I don't know anything about Eddie Hazel but the looks on his face wins me over instantly. No truly evil person can lose themselves that totally in psychedelic guitar rock - it takes a certain vulnerability.
Kind of looks like Snoop in this last shot:
Also great Ween song - the fact that it is basically a Maggot Brain cover only deepens my appreciation.

Here is Eddie Hazel performing Maggot Brain live:
This is on my small list of 'Prohibited Songs' I will not put into general music mixes because they are too emotionally powerful for me. Appropriately this version comes with it's own warning: "This video will melt your face and the face of anyone standing within 40 feet. Please, before it melts the face of someone I care about."
The sound quality is not the greatest but if you can stop yourself from cranking the volume to the maximum you are stronger than I am. I'll just say that this song is a small scale religious experience to me and leave it at that.
Watch for the moment in the song where George Clinton walks around the stage fist held high as the guitarists melt reality - I feel like I'm finally seeing other humans I understand, who might share the same experience of reality as I do.
This song is so powerful that it even cleans up the garbage-strewn Youtube comment section so that the top comment is something worthy of the song.

Re: A Tear for Eddy
I was originally going to wait to April 10th to post the song as a tribute to Eddie Hazel's for his birthday but it got to me and I just had to share it.
Both Maggot Brain and A tear for Eddy speak to a part of me that I can't articulate and that is a beautiful thing.
To do a meaningful tribute to Eddie and Maggot Brain takes a deep understanding of the song and the ability to speak it back through music. I don't think many musicians are capable of doing it but Ween manages to shed a tear for Eddie in a beautiful and moving song.
