I just want to say the I did not watch that boyznoise video before I posted it. I guess the theme to that video is "Ain't nothing but love in the club!"????
And I'm really liking that flume song.

Re: More New Stuff I findz
+ One Older Song
This weekend Stef mentioned that Alvin and the Chipmunks are "in" again or at least showing up on her younger co-workers' references. This prompted me to dig way-back into my Napster folder and pull this out this tune who lyrics still manage to re-surface in my brain ("You’re going down Seville, you’re going down! Dave, you're exposed - fuck with the Chipmunks, you end up comatose!")
The date on the file in April 2001. The WTC building are still standing, the big showdown over the FTAA in Quebec is a month away, Napster is opening up a gold-mine of obscure songs to me.
I tried to dig up who made but I couldn't so I'm going to assume GenXers. It is one of the catchiest abuses of intellectual property I've heard and it signified just how wide open the the media-gates had been blown open. I have a fondness for this song that goes beyond reason.
Here are (some of) the lyrics from a German anime website:
Die Chipmunks mal ganz böse XD
"Gangsta rap" - Alvin & The Chipmunks
Before all this, we were just __(?)__ chipmunks
Yeah, I remember growing up in the parks
Life was nice and beautiful
I used to live in a cosy whole under a tree on the Westside
But then we met Dave Seville
He changed our lifes forever
He took us into his home
And raised us as his own children
We travelled around the world
Entertaining children with our shows and albums
We used to ride in limos and ____(?)_____
We were on top of the world
But there’s another side in this story
One that no one knows
We did coke, drink
Bottles of Jack
Fucked under eight(?) women
Both white and black
And in my prime when I was a star
I shine
I get fucked up
The parties’ man all the time
-
-
-
-
We were bigger than Michael
On my Gogo this cycle (?)
With Dave on the tie rod
We were also a __(?)__
And I got the thinking, man
Yeah, me too
About what
Being digged over
Yeah, about how life’s so unfair
Yeah, it was funny how things changed from the beginning to the end
You know we __(?)__
…sell a million albums
How can I be broke
Dave we ever even gotta nuts
Nothing, nothing Dave
You’re going down Seville, you’re going down
Dave, your exposed
First with the chipmunks you __(?)__
Mister Seville how does it feeled
When I stepped to your (?) with the hardcore steel
Hey that’s a bitch, ain’t it, Dave
First I gonna kick it then I piss on your grave
The year is 2000, Chipmunks for rule
So step all back while I take you to school
Hey, we’re the Chipmunks (Chipmunks)
And we ain’t going out like punks
Hey we’re the Chipmunks (Chipmunks)
And we ain’t going out like punks
I said hey we’re the Chipmunks (Chipmunks)
And we ain’t going out like punks
I said hey we’re the Chipmunks (Chipmunks)
And we ain’t going out like punks
I said hey, hey, hey, hey, hey
We’re the Chipmunks
(repeat until fade)

Re: More New Stuff I findz
I have listened to that chipmunks song too many times...but I still really enjoy it. However, who ever typed up the lyrics did not do a very good job.
Re: More New Stuff I findz
I started to fill in the missing lyrics - but then I started to like broken-up nature of them, the lyrics are from a German site dedicated to Anime, so I suspect English is not their first language.
Here is a companion to the 'DJ Darren Francis' video, I don't know if I can match that video's musically combination of Moby meets DubStep, but I figure [Kate Bush + Utah Saints + MC Hammer +Scottish Wales Bar] will give some stiff competition with a similar sense of humor.
So here is your Monday Musical selection - a video set in 1989 featuring a 2008 re-mix of 1992 hit that heavily sampled a 1985 song:
It was the freshest move I'd ever seen - like he was floatin' on air

Well if we are going back to 2008, I think that Flat Eric need to be paid a visit.
And I would like to report that yet another computer has died on me so I'm now rocking an IPad for now.

Wow - Mr.Ozio takes me right back to the Napster years. Damn.
My copies (flat beat & analog worms attack) are dated Feb. 2001, so I suspect this head-banging muppet is closer to 2000 than 2008.

And here comes Seth! making his long-awaited return Worthwhile with some weird furry music
I don't know why but I can't get enough of the fusion between Oldie and New Age. Really I love oldie in and of itself but it's kind of difficult to find good quality on YouTube, You know because it predates YouTube by 10 to 20 years!

I've always been fascinated by folk music, especially When it's authentic and reworked by current musicians! Right now I'm on the prowl for any and all Sea shanties, And I compiled quite a nice little collection Already set up on YouTube.
I'm currently in a Pirate Role-play campaign On the Pathfinder system, No prissy pirate's Either, This campaign can get pretty dark >

Caravan Palace was something I had not heard before! - it was strange but appealing mix of funky electro beats and big-band swing melody (+ furries). Thanks for introducing me to it. The closest I can relate it to would be 'Never Be Your Woman' - White House from 1997, which is a trip-hop version of a 1932 song.

Re: More New Stuff I findz
I really like ME!ME!ME! I know it has the reputation of "OMG - Breasts shooting Bullet! SHe puked in his mouth!" but it does capture the male psyche being torn apart between the hyper-feminine of hentai/lolicon/ect and the hyper-masculine of Sci-Fi first-person-shooters. Ingesting that sort of powerful imagery every day has to do something to modern teenage males.
Now add in that gasoline of heartbreak & depression (as the video suggests) and you got the recipe for a nice psychotic breakdown.
The Freudian would say that this video illustrates the continuing male ego's struggle to not be overwhelmed by their need for females, which begins with separating yourself from your overwhelming dependency on your mother as an infant and than returns as you begin dating/marrying. The kid in the video is losing this battle despite the mecha armour-suit and assault rifle...
Here's another 'Japanesiest Japanese' video but a more backwards-looking one. It's got 1970s manga, ultraman, polygon fighters, kaiju, breakdancing, street vendors, UFOs. It stands up to multiple viewing as all the plots & elements overlap into glorious chaos

I will leave the Sea Shanties to Reb as he has already posted one up:

Our minds have a maritime bent lately, so any discussion of piracy is welcome.

Sea Shanties! Excellent! I just got back in from a trip up the Great Northern Peninsula so I haven't had a chance to go through my list of songs but here is a Link to some Newfoundland sea shanties.
The song Hobb linked to was by The Dreadnoughts and they have entire albums of just sea shanties.
This is another Song I have posted that I really enjoy. The song is all about the Slack!
Banks of Newfoundland is a great song about sailing around Newfoundland and the hardness of it.

Really enjoyed the TV show AMV, I actually have an entire playlist dedicated to animated music videos that I often play in the background while I focus on something else. Some of them are extremely creative!
Last one is a Goof
If you want any context behind any videos I Post just ask :)

Re: More New Stuff I findz
I would definitely like more context for these videos - even if you could just separate out what is original animation and which are well-edited compilations.
The first seems like an animated sketchbook, similar to Bill Plympton's work, but it brings in so many elements, has so many computer effects and homages to famous animated sequences I was sure what was occurring. Some original work mixed with modified clips?
The second one is a visual feast of lurid black-light and day-glo colors. Very late 70s/early 80s - so I enjoyed. Even though it had a obvious club/musicians motif half-way through I began to wonder if it was another fan-edit.
The third one is clearly a fan-edit because it is arranging the clips by theme (swords, movement from the left, kisses) which I have seem many times before. Doing a video like that would be a great way to learn about a genre because it is a combo of TVtropes and a film school class. I think it was only using 2013 clips but they made the mistake of starting with classic AstroBoy and not giving it any pay-off! That's why there is a film-making rule that you should never put clips of classic movies into modern films because the audience will spend the rest of the time wanting more of that classic...
Finally, Violent SailorMoon/Dubstep/Gansta-rap?
Reb - another Great Big Sea classic I had not heard before. It also comes with a cool pedigree of being "the earliest Newfoundland composition set down in music notation." I think Sea Shanties and Slavic Dirges must be cousins, because they invoke similar emotions.
We'll scrape her and we'll scrub her
with holy stone and sand,
For there blows some cold nor'westers
on the Banks of Newfoundland.

Re: More New Stuff I findz
The one thing with the song that I still don't get is the "nor'westers". We get nor'easters but I have never heard of a nor'wester. However, the wind is impressively cold regardless. Up until last week I was still wearing my thick hoodie jacket (for below zero temps), a touque, and gloves...and at points I was still cold. It is that Labrador current...it keeps everything freezing. I think, but can't say for sure, the Pacific people have it easy. Same with Europe. Even Norway wind I don't think is as cold as Newfoundland wind. They have the Gulf steam to keep it warmer.
Re: More New Stuff I findz
The first one is a wonderful example of an artistic AMV, now many in the community would argue that every AMV is artistic but this would be one of the more blatant cases. There is indeed a lot of hand-drawn art in the video but much of it is derived from the original animation itself and run through different types of software. An example of another AMV that applies Similar software.
The second is more of a.... animated promotional video, There were obviously some regular anime thrown in there but the Most prevalent scenes were from a kick starter anime http://steambotstudios.com/urbance/ So the Creator made the video in hopes of gathering interest behind what was already set up.
The third is a AMV covering every single anime that came out or continued that year. That's right every single one. And the Creator decided to start it off with a Homage too Histories "first" anime.
There's actually two more covering the years of 2012, 2014 and 2015.
Hahaha the last is just a goofy AMV, the song is a compilation of lyrics from the show always sunny in Philadelphia. The anime in question is actually quite serious and emotional but he did a good job of making it Ridiculous.
Two more for the road!

Re: More New Stuff I findz
Reb - Good catch on the "nor'wester". You are right and I don't know what to think.
A lyrical mistake? Perhaps the song was written on the west or south side of the islands where such winds might be more common? Maybe the fact it is about Liverpudlian immigrants (fishermen?) heading across the Atlantic that explains the climatic ignorance ("You bully boys of Liverpool [...] you're bound for America's shore]?
Re-reading Wikipedia I believe this is NOT the oldest musical composition but "an entirely different "The Banks of Newfoundland" is a song in ballad form, created as a parody of "Van Dieman's Land."
'Van Dieman's Land' is grim-faced shanty about Irishmen convicted of poaching and sentenced to Tasmania [where they will be rehabilitated by the justice system of a mammoth-powered, Dark Elf magitopia.. ]
'Van Dieman's Land'
Seth - Thanks for clarifying what I was seeing. Things have come a long way from me hooking two VCRs to each other and hitting the pause/rec buttons. Editing is the powerful 'invisible art' that creates the modern world - it should be seen akin to music or painting. The AMV's hyper-quick cuts have an almost trance-inducing effect that is contrasted by the very hyper-kinetic motion of the images, something like a mixture of stimulants and hypnotics, amphetamines cut with barbiturates. I much happier sampling these fan-made version of this powerful effect than the big Hollywood version!
