Luma the Budgie
Despite the decades we spent together, it was only in the past few years that I got to know Luma. In the wake of the death of his long-time partner Chompsky, I began to interact with her more. I would take his cage and place beside the patio door, pour some seed outside and watch his study the chickadees and blue jays that would flock in. He was very attentive to the many birds that live around us and would often chirp in response to their calls. She would sing along with the radio or music and we would leave music on just for him. I could always have some fun and use the bird noises on the yamaha synth to talk to her and she would happily answer back. When I played some synthetic chirps a few days, he gave only a single response, he had been looking tired and would lean against the cage for support.
As we interacted more I could she how observant he was. I started to click and whistle to him when ever I entered his room. I would show him my hands and slowly approach him when I wanted to move his cage. He became a daily companion to me.
I have never really missed a bird before but I miss him now.
Goodbye Luma

Re: Luma the Budgie
I have fond memories of my budgies from when I was a young guy.
I completely forgot you had a budgie though...it was always the other furry friends that occupied my attention when paying a visit. I do hope you have those chirps and whistles saved on the PC or the synth though. Great memories, thanks for sharing.

Some how I missed this entire thread.
I am sorry for the loss of Luma. I really enjoyed hearing the chirping in the background during days and some nights at your place. It will be noticibly quieter now.
Goodbye Luma.
