Pop Will Eat Itself - Babylon (1994)
It's hard to listen to this because it make me young again. To be young was to be angry, to spend too much time in the places of the souls that wish for the cleansing fire, social collapse, the next world war, the revolution. To become the fire you wished would arrive. To be young was to hope that what would come afterward would be better. Older you give up on the apocalypse, too much work, too much suffering, too much lost. Hopes become smaller, eventually just withstanding the growing dark seems a victory. Is there a place between apocalypse and just surviving?
This was a great end song to one of the great albums of the 90s. I would often play it as the last song at a party, it mellowed the PWEI chaos without disarming it.
I got veins bulging inside of me
There's no reins can stop my kickstart
I got brains ticking inside of me
While all around it crumbles apart
Burn, burn Babylon, burn
I don`t make cash from rebellion
I don`t charge for words from my heart
I call the shots, ten out of ten again
I saw it all right from the start
Burn, burn Babylon, burn
So wake up, wake up, children, wake up, wake up
I see fire brought by the winds of change
A new crop, fresh from the soil
I`m all wired, fired up for better days
We'll see stars through the smoke screen once more
Burn, burn, burn
So wake up, wake up, children, wake up, wake up
