blank.com V. blank.org
I was trying to fix a bug in Firefox so for a homepage I typed in 'blank' which defaulted to blank.com. The page was appropriately blank - but my 'Ghostery' tracker-blocker noted that page had tried to set a Double-Click Ad tracker. Curious I then tried blank.org and found that it also tried to set a tracker - Google Adsense.
One of the nice things about Ghostery is that it also gives you information on the companies behind the trackers so I realized that DoubleClick is also a Google product.
Blankwebsite.com has two trackers: Google's Adsense and Clearspring's Addthis (described as a 'social bookmarkering sevice')
I think that is a good metaphor for the WWW - even the blank pages have Google trackers on them.
[Yes I'm procrastinating from other work - how did you know? Are you tracking my web-browsing habit?]
