A Very British Coup - Jah Wobble
I have no opinion on Brexit, I've heard good cases for both staying and leaving. It doesn't matter. The lyrics are aimed straight at 'the occult technologies of power' at the heart of the British Empire.
This song is mixed by Andrew Weatherall and band is 'Public Images Limited' minus Johnny Lyndon. So we're getting the guy who remixed Primal Scream's "I'm Losing More Than I'll Ever Have" into the classic "Loaded" (and dozens of other great remixes) working with the band that did tracks like "this is not a love song", "order of death" and "death disco". The guy replacing Johnny Lydon on vocal is Mark Stewart, whose work I encountered when researching early Skinny Puppy. The titles of Stewart's 1980s albums - Learning to Cope with Cowardice (1983) and As the Veneer of Democracy Starts to Fade (1985) - give some idea of his politics.
Crusty punks, veteran malcontents and the best re-mixer of the 1990s make this song go sweet and sour in just the right proportions.
I cannot find the lyrics to the song bu this article give some of them: http://internationaltimes.it/brexit-wounds/
Mark Stewart is an interesting guy, here an interview: https://www.greenleft.org.au/content/gospel-according-mark
et pour Kathy DiTondo...
