Anouar Brahem - The Player of the Oud
It is thanks to the exposure to the Hearts of Space radio show that certain musicians have come to shine for me. For an incomparable vocalist, it would be Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, for example. For oud music, it's Anouar Brahem who's come to shine. Having said that, it's not as if I'm comparing him to other oud players I know.
Brahem appears on one of my favourite Hearts of Space programs: The Wood. The program ends with piano accompanied by Brahem's oud, from an album called Le Pas du Chat Noir (Steps of the Black Cat) - although there is also an accordionist on the album. In seeing what I could find on youtube, there were many pieces of music by him, but the one I wanted to hear in full didn't seem to be available to me. Only premium members could watch a couple of songs I was trying to listen to.
But I came upon this piece and thought I would share it:

Hearts of Space is a gift that keeps on giving (in terms of be exposed to music)
Recently I got into 'Gurumander (Blue Star)' after listening to a HoS
'The Oud' has been a long-time favorite and was once the regular HoS I would listen at the end of a night. I look forward to hearing more by that same artists.
Let me know what songs you cannot access and I'll see what I can do,

Re: Anouar Brahem - The Player of the Oud
Thanks for putting up the Gurumander and friends.
I've been trying to find another piece of music from The Wood - an amazingly fast (at the end) and beautiful piece on the oud...but after listening to Stephen Hill speak about which songs and artists I was listening to in order, I can't seem to find what I believe he's saying is a Middle Eastern Fusion band called Night Hark. It comes in around 22:30 and goes along for a couple minutes fairly softly, gradually picks up, but then at 25:30 it erupts into a frenzy of notes played ever so brilliantly for the last 20 or 25 seconds of the piece. This one piece of music alone, was without a doubt the reason I burned The Wood onto a CD to listen to in the car.
The piece of music that I couldn't find in its entirety is track 2 from Le Pas du Chat Noir, called "de tout ton coeur." I can find one that plays for less than 4 minutes, but the piece is well over 7 minutes long. The others I was simply wanting to hear (and which seemed to require premium member status) were mainly from his 2014 album Souvenance. I was surprised at how many of these I couldn't play.

Re: Anouar Brahem - The Player of the Oud
Thanks! I actually tried to find a track listing for The Wood - Program #637. I was thinking...maybe hearts of space has a website with all its programs and their respective track listings? Now I know the impressive piece of music I was referring to in my last post was Tarik Banzi's "Intimacy."
The premium member issue I was having was with Youtube, not Google.
I just listened to First Flight when I got home. I have several times revisited the first 3 - after you had mentioned how impressive they all were - but also go to my favourites regularly (or pieces contained within). You just mentioned how HofS is a gift that keeps on giving. It is such a vast collection, for which I've not made much of a dent into over the years. I'm going to start listening to some new ones, with plans of finding some other treasured artists, pieces of music and desired atmospheres for various uses/moods.
