About the "stand down" there are two major takes:

1) it was allowed to happen by Trump's enemies in order to deeply damage Trump (the maximum version of this is that Qanon cult is an op to damage Trump too)
2) it was allowed to happen because police love trump and he loves them - so they planned too little, compromised too much, and were overrun by the crowds
