A Dutch Documentary on Progressive Pop Music
This is a dutch documentary on progressive pop-music.
Featuring Coil, Test Department, Foetus and Current 93.
Snippets of this appeared on the, now long dead, Much Music show City Limits. (Maybe the Wedge)

So in the Netherlands Dadist-inspired 'industrial noise terrorism' is seen as a branch of pop-music?

Got to love the Dutch. I do think if more challenging music was injected into pop, it would be good for community de-programming. Pop music in it's current for is owned by the big three media companies, unlike 30 years ago. Even pop-music acts on the fringes (Nirvanna, Sonic Youth, even Skinny Puppy in the US market) are owned by one of the big 3.
Sony, Universal and Warner should not control music to the extent that they do. They actually have more power over music than they do film, due to musics inability to adapt to new technology.
I think I got off on a tangent.

This forum is 85% my tangents. Hurray for tangents!
This will sound like 'old-man nostalgia' but a few years ago I spent a day listening to the number #1 pop songs for the 80s, 90s, 00s (they were compiled on a youtube list) and the diversity of 1980s #1 pop music was astounding. By the late 1990s the top pop songs were pretty similar - all shaped by the corporate formula machine I assume.
KLF's 'How to Have a Number One the Easy Way' is still a classic on the subject of crafting #1 songs.

I Always find it amusing when people say nicki minaj or Drake are amazing artists when in reality they're not artists at all, Their actors, they have nine or 10 people write songs for them which they then go up on stage and act out. I also find it equally annoying When I Sometimes actually enjoy their songs, well I Enjoy the rhythm and beat, And it's only natural considering these songs were practically made in a lab with songwriter scientists putting together the most appealing sounds and lyrics to attract the mindless hordes of My generation !

Seth, I understand what you are saying, you can find your foot tapping to some art crimes. I prescribe Merzbow, cleanses the musical memory. But sometimes a top-40 song is fun.
