Friday Political Round-Up
1) I can fear Trump, I can detest him - but watching the Trump wrecking-ball swing back & forth in the Republican party is so much fun. Now Trump is talking about how Bush Jr. "lied" America in to the Iraq War. Great times as the Neo-Cons who led that disaster are twisting their underwear in knots, trying to refute it. The libertarian website antiwar.com does a great job re-counting the lies http://original.antiwar.com/justin/2016/02/18/were-we-lied-into-war/ and reminded me of the key Neo-Con policy paper in tricking the US military into destroying the Mid-East
The idea that America's disastrous 'Wars of Terror's true purpose is to destroy Israel's neighbours is one of the few geopolitical perspectives that make sense - and it has a paper trail to support it. 'Get the US to destroy Iraq and then team-up with ISIS and Turkey to destroy Syria' is a pithy but accurate summary of recent history.
2) I generally avoid Israel stuff because it's banal and overdone - but nothing like watching Canada's political parties gang-up to bully Quakers to get me going. So the Quakers want to boycott Israeli products due to their racist apartheid where Palestinians live in ghettos and are culled by the military every few years to prevent an uprising (look up the term "mowing the grass"). Boycotting is a non-violent reasonable form of protest, right? Not to any of the three Canadian political parties:
The Conservative Party, which is now a branch of right-wing Zionism since Harper demanded it become one, wrote a letter to the UN saying our country will have "zero tolerance" with Israel boycotts. Yep, "zero tolerance" on peaceful means of resisting apartheid. The Liberals and NDP agree. In Canada you have to buy Israeli products made in their Palestinian slave factories - to do otherwise is antisemitism and utterly condemned. Sounds legit.
Right now in Canada you have the Conservatives who are to the right of most Americans in blind support of the Israel right - there is no way I can exaggerate Harper's abject slavery to Israel, it was surreal, but try this one: Stephen Harper vows loyalty to Israel in speech to Knesset - Speech to Israeli parliament unique for a Canadian prime minister http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/stephen-harper-vows-loyalty-to-israel-in-speech-to-knesset-1.2503393 . The term used down south is "Israel's Amen Corner" to show the strange overlap between Apocalyptic Christianity and support for Isreali apartide, and the term fits the Conservative Party here perfectly.
The Liberals' last election campaign was made possible by the multi-millionare Stephen Bronfman, heir to the Bronfman empire that was founded by Edgar Bronfman, a Jewish mobster who made his fortune selling Canadian booze during prohibition. Trudeau taps millionaire Stephen Bronfman to help fill Liberals' war chest http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/stephen-bronfman-to-lead-trudeaus-fundraising-campaign/article13999238/
Needless to say the Liberals are also very pro-Israel as the CBC article makes clear: "Justin Trudeau's Liberals have actually been quite consistent in publicly opposing Isreal Boycotts (BDS), a movement begun by the Palestinians 11 years ago as an alternative to armed struggle. But the Liberals would really rather not make a big deal of it."
Lastly the 'leftist' NDP. So how does the CBC article summarize their leader: "Mulcair is an ardent supporter of Israel, opposes Boycotts, and has disciplined NDP candidates who publicly criticized the Jewish state."
So 3 for 3, all Canadian politicians [heart] Israeli apartheid.
No one talks about this much because I suspect the average Canadian either doesn't care or doesn't agree.
3) The good news is that Canada's longest, most public, grotesque case of child-abuse is almost over: Omar Khadr to stay out on bail after federal government drops appeal http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/omar-khadr-bail-fight-1.3454278
antiwar.com wrote:Entitled “A Clean Break: A New Strategy for Securing the Realm,” the paper recommended a general offensive against Israel’s neighbors: “Israel can shape its strategic environment, in cooperation with Turkey and Jordan, by weakening, containing, and even rolling back Syria. This effort can focus on removing Saddam Hussein from power in Iraq – an important Israeli strategic objective in its own right – as a means of foiling Syria’s regional ambitions.”

Blanket government condemnation is not a very sunny thing to do, and the Liberals, quivering with outrage, are making it clear they really don't want to do it.
But they are going ahead because, apparently, they're being bullied, the poor daisies.
It's just not fair, the things you can be forced to do when you have a parliamentary majority.
