USA vs Japan - Giant Robot Fight

I didn't know what category to put this under:

So apparently in June 2016 the US and Japan are going to have a fight between two piloted giant robots. It might be interesting.

Is there a website for this? How did you find out about it? When is the fight gonna be? REAL LIFE ROBOTJOX!!!!!! gaaa gaaa gaaaaaaaaa.... drool.

I don't know of any website for it yet. I found out about it when I was reading a list of cool things to happen in 2016. I don't remember where that list was or what else was on it. Once I saw this I started looking into it a bit more.

As far as I know it is scheduled to take place this June, but that is all I know.

It has potential but being the first match it may be a little slow and disappointing, but hopefully they put on a good show and it catches on.

Boston Dynamics has some pretty insane robots.

I saw that last night on @midnight... they said that the robot gets fucked with "Canadian Style".  That one is creepy the way no door can hold him back.  I think they need to work on it a bit more tho...  like a case of beer is 25 Lbs guys.  Kinda useless to me until it could handle that kinda load.  ppppfft 10 pounds...  what I'm gonna do?  send it out just for a 6 pack?!?!  Like come on!

I want a mech.  I want it now!

I like the RobotJox concept but I doubt that manned gas-powered machines are going to go to battle - even if they take the Japanese suggestion and stick to hand-to-hand combat.  Too much potential for burn ward casualties.

After a decade of these videos can we stop calling it 'Boston Dynamics' and just call it Cyberdyne? Who are we fooling besides ourselves?

I like how the robot lifted with its legs and not its back - unlike the early 800 series of Terminators that had rubber skin and plenty of lumbar injuries. Also poking that proto-Terminators with a hockey sticks looked fun.

Boston dynamics... we are doomed. That was unsettling. the way it grabbed the box that could easily have been a human head instead... the way it pushed itself up after being knocked down seemed aggressive and threatening... and then of course to tease it, torment it and bully it... the robot hive mind won't forget that... payback for guys with cardboard tubes and hockey sticks will be swift and harsh when the robots take over.

I loved the 'giant robots are japanese culture' in the reply video... and 'building something big and putting guns on it is so... american'...

Pacific Rim was awful, but somehow it is getting a sequel.

Not quite the same thing but a few days ago some construction companies in China got into a dispute and had a bulldozer fight. Almost ticket worthy!
