Tribal drumming and techno are a natural combination so it's nice to have it done, without it being blatant 'cultural appropriation'. This was straight forward, foot-stomping, head-banging, stadium-rocking beats. Or an industrial-powered Pow Wow song.

Prayers - Mexica

Prayers was founded in 2013 as a 'Cholo-goth' band influenced by Christian Death, Depeche Mode, Bauhaus, Pet Shop Boys and other dark 80s music, as well as by Reyes' life as gang member in one of San Diego's oldest Latino gangs and his career running San Diego's first vegan/vegetarian Mexican restaurant, Pokéz.

Their lyrics mix Western esotericism (especially Crowley) with the Olmec magic while exploring the harsh realities of gang and street life over throbbing beats and swirling synthesizers. . A Mexican cousin to the 'witch house' genre.
