Real-time shipping map that allows you to select almost any ship in the ocean in real time and find out details about the ship.

This is a nice map showing ship movements over 2012. It allows you to select routes, what type of ships, and the ports. The sheer volume of ships on the ocean is remarkable and some areas of the world are so dense with ships it is hard to imagine.

It is worth checking out.

It is cool seeing all the fishing boats to the east and the cargo boats going west. A few cruise ships can be found circling, about 20 ships in St.John harbour. There was an 'unidentified' boat at Gaultois - I wonder if it is the ferry but there are other named ships that seem to be doing that run.

The 'past track' feature is nice too.

I posted a interactive map with old whaling routes a while back: https://roadtonowhere.forumotion.org/t38-sea-shanty
