"This take you to a sad, dark place you don't want to go, but once there, it is hard to leave."

"By far the best version of this song... The immensity of emotion in some parts frightens me."

"This version of possession is simply the best she ever sang it."

"I'm definitely not complaining...but this version is almost TOO intimate..."

"fragility and strength, in perfect balance"

"This is my favorite version of this song. So haunting and personal. The opening intro where the host clearly has no idea of the talent he has on his stage makes it even better."

"The sweetest kiss of madness."

"I miss the hippie Sarah."

At the end of the song she seems to wake-up from a trance, like she was possessed...

Impressive.  At the beginning even...she seems to show with a demonic smile to the host, how she owns the story of the song.

Mclachlan was an orphan and earlier in her life this left a deep void in her. When she started singing, guys with voids in them were enraptured by her and sent her stalker-type letters.

She took those disturbing obsessive notes and adapted them to write this song from their perspective. A dangerous amount of voids and longings is being transforming into art. The song is framed in ultra-feminine longing but its core is male stalker energy - a volatile mix that she somehow channels through her body.

“Possession” is written from the viewpoint of a man obsessed with a woman, and was inspired by consistent fan letters to McLachlan some time before the writing of the song from a computer programmer from Ottawa, Ontario named Uwe Vandrei, who sued McLachlan for using his words without crediting him.

However, Vandrei committed suicide before the case could ever be taken to court.

McLachlan said, "And this one person wasn't the only guy ... there were a lot of letters from other people saying the same kind of thing ... Writing the song 'Possession' was very therapeutic."
