Lessons Learnt
Lessons we learnt
* Don't break glass with your bare hands
* Be careful going through broken windows
* Life is harsh in trailer parks
* Eat fresh foods quickly (don't bother taking meat out of the fridge)
* Alarms attract zombies
* Whiskey is a disinfectant
* Chocolate helps mood
* A fork is not enough to fight zombies, neither is a fishing pole
* A severe bite to the groin from an zombie grandmother can be fatal
* Brings lots of bandages
* Get bandage from ripping up zombies' clothing if necessary
* Find a light source for exploring dark areas
* You will re-animate in 30 seconds if you died from a bite - so, while you are alive, help your friends by re-assuring them it is OK to re-kill you.
* Injuries are hard to heal - but not impossible
* Eventually your will find yourself damp, half-naked and carrying an axe so make sure you have clicked the 'chest-hair' option in the male character creation process
* Large parts of time are spent with at least one player in a palliative state
* You think you could win a shoving contest with a zombie - but you probably can't
* Trains (all most public transportation) have collapsed into decay before the zombie apocalypse
* Might as well take up smoking
* Tissue paper can muffle zombie-attracting coughs and sniffles
* You can drink from the toilets if necessary
* Eventually you will start writing stuff just to stay sane
* "Queasy - so queasy, nauseous and bored, hungry then thirsty, over-heated, damp, cold, now feverish, a grab-bag of pains (from minor to agony ), tired, depressed, over-loaded, embedded glass in the hand and your dirty bandages need cleaning - this is going to be a long morning..."

Re: Lessons Learnt
Actually you might want to stay off the cigarettes, they are good for quick and easy relief but as in the real world they can cause quite a few problems down the line a.k.a. Lung and endurance problems.
If your ever feeling stressed I suggest a Hot Cuppa (Insert random hot drink) all you need is some sugar, tea or coffee, a cup and a kettle. And surprisingly you don't even need A fire source to heat it up!
Or you know you could just get drunk! The game gives you no shortage of Chardonnay
Also hello everyone! My name is Seth, I'm 19 and Hobbs and I have met on a few occasions already. He sent me this link so I could familiarize myself with everybody and get into some of this sweet Zombie action! I'm fairly sure at least one or two of you have met me and my dad Shawn while we were visiting Hobbs so I look forward to getting to know everyone

Welcome, Seth!
It is a small crew here and the forums are not too busy so feel free to post anything you want. I'm generally here once a day.
It is interesting to know that cigarettes are as deadly in game as they are in real-life life but I confess that the grim-dark despair of zombie apocalypse makes worries about lung cancer and emphysema seems minor - except if you are left gasping for breath when you try to escape a zombie pack....

Hey Seth!
It is Reb (Hobb's brother) and we have met a few times at grassy lake.
I was wondering what kind of characters everyone was planning on playing? My last character was a doctor and I quite enjoyed that and would like to explore it further unless someone else wants to try that role. I know sometimes characters are short lived but that is what I would like to start as.

Re: Lessons Learnt
I always play the runner, or the scavenger if you want to get detailed. I'm always going to carry two packs with me and and an Axe if I ever need to get Physical but I generally don't use it. My character build and mentality is that of the guy that's able to run to the other side of the town And back To get Desperately needed medical supplies or food without stopping. I'm also quite good at scouting and redirecting the flow of zombies in a certain area :) I have about 90 hours logged into the game So I've discovered quite a few useful tips and tricks to stay alive, the only thing I haven't done is play multiplayer which I'm Quite excited about!

Re: Lessons Learnt
I'm thinking we should definitely have a park ranger in our team as well, the recent patches have made trapping, Hunting and fishing A very viable option. Having a dedicated doctor in our group allows Everyone else to take a flaw That stops us from performing medical treatment on ourselves. It can be a risky gamble as the doctor might not always be around us but it does allow for an extra trait. A construction worker might also be helpful depending on what play style we want to go for, I know several good locations where we can hold up on the outskirts of town that would give us a secure location once we boarded up the windows. We Will definitely need A barbarian at some point that's good with dealing out massive blunt damage, a.k.a. a strong Brute who is able to carry all our heavy supplies. Other than that I guess it generally depends on everyone's preference

Re: Lessons Learnt
I might play a character who has snapped under the strain of the apocalypse and is now convinced that zombies are lost souls who only need to be guided back to the Lord in order to free them to ascend to heaven - and he's the pastor the dead need. He will increasingly do erratic things that endanger the group until they are forced to kill him.
Either that or a Brute.
On a more serious side I'm not sure what patches we are using - so we might want to schedule in some extra time in case compatibility issues need to be solved.

Re: Lessons Learnt
I like the idea of flushing out characters a bit. A bit of story behind them or just more about them. It may not always be feasible to do it but for some characters it might be fun...at least have a little more story to them when they die.
Re: Lessons Learnt
So here's an idea: randomize all the basic game settings on the server (zombie traits, when the electricity turns off, ect..)
That way the thrill of discovery (horrible, horrible discovery!) and mystery is back in the game.
You might have to do this manually (i.e roll a dice) but it would be worth it.

Re: Lessons Learnt
My characters have died too quickly for me to spend too much time on their backgrounds - but here are some 'character generators' that could add some quick personality to our characters.
complex gen
simple gen (some fantasy)
simple gen
one-line concepts
quirks
These should be enough for our purposes but any other modern character generators are welcome.
I have a modern character generating book from the 1980s - if anybody was really hardcore I could dig it out and we could generate a complete background in the chat using dice rolls...

Re: Lessons Learnt
I randomized the game settings now. I posted the start month under Project Zomboid Time because I think that is a setting everyone should know.
I looked through the generators and the simple gen one works really well. Just substitute the proper profession in place and you have the basics. The quirks one adds a little more detail if needed.

Re: Lessons Learnt
Well if We are going for role-play aspect I'm generally either the fun-loving bard, Glenn from The Walking Dead type character or I take on a more leader aspect.

Re: Lessons Learnt
Though I actually like the idea of randomly generating back stories and Personality for our characters, It would almost be like playing clue! everybody would be a mystery with a different personality that you would slowly reveal to the rest of the group :) also for the random settings, I definitely like it as it adds to the atmosphere of the world but I'm not sure you should do the same with the zombie template. Zombies can either be slow walkers, regular or crazy ass Mothertrucking Reavers!!!!! And if the randomization falls on the latter than we all die very quickly
