NATO and Russian "War Games"
NATO is in the midst of it's largest war games in the past decade.

The ending of this article is a bit funny when it describes some of the failures.
Russia earlier this year also had massive war games.

Both the NATO and Russia war games were of significant size and obviously directed at each other. The increasing tension between NATO and Russia is a bit worrisome. Although I still can't quite wrap my mind around a war between the two. It just seems far to crazy.
I hate the term "war games". It makes it sound so benign.

Re: NATO and Russian "War Games"
Watching the Cold War powers flexing their muscles and staring at the other guy is almost comical - except it could lead to the death of human life on Earth... I like the part where the hovercraft can't make it because the "beach was too steep". Not exactly Normandy on D-Day.
The Trudeau Jr. cabinet is likely going to be anti-Russian.
First there is the PM
Then there is the Liberal Party...
And the right-wing media is already Red-baiting him...
BUT....
Trudeau is not a hard-core right-winger...
Jean Chretien has actually met Putin in the last year - and defended Russia in Syria!
Just yesterday Chretien said this....
Yet the most important factor might be Trudeau's younger brother, Alexandre Trudeau....
Who knows how this all plays out - but unlike the Harper years there is a least some hope for sanity as their is a Liberal tradition of treating Russia with some dignity.

Justin Trudeau wrote:“Canada needs to continue to stand strongly with the international community pushing back against the bully that is Vladimir Putin,” he said during a campaign stop in Toronto.
“If I have the opportunity in the coming months to meet with Vladimir Putin, I will tell him all this directly to his face because we need to ensure that Canada continues to stand strongly for peace and justice in the world.”
Then there is the Liberal Party...
Ukrainian Weekly wrote:Trudeau’s 184-member Liberal House of Commons caucus will include at least seven Members of Parliament with Ukrainian lineage according to a list compiled by the Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC). Top amongst them is Alberta-born Chrystia Freeland, who served as Liberal trade critic.
Trudeau, met with the leadership of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress and reiterated his support for the people of Ukraine and their territorial integrity in the face of Russian aggression.
And the right-wing media is already Red-baiting him...
Sun Media Morons wrote:His first act was to tell our American ally he is going to pull our CF-18s out of the fight against ISIS. This group of terrorists are the most vile, barbaric and ritualistic murderers the world has witnessed and Trudeau is choosing to stand on the sidelines.
It is by no coincidence — more by design — that the expansionist Putin regime announced plans Thursday for three new military bases in the Arctic. The Russian defence minister, Sergei Shoigu, boasted: “This is a really large base that was never seen during the Soviet times, and it has modern equipment, all of the needed equipment for these boundaries.”
So what say you, prime minister-designate Trudeau?
The Russian Bear is poking Canada and what do you plan to do?
BUT....
Trudeau is not a hard-core right-winger...
Justin Trudeau wrote:Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau is under fire from Conservative MPs after joking about Russia 's Olympic hockey team going without a medal during a discussion about Ukraine violently suppressing demonstrations.
In an interview taped on Thursday, which aired Sunday night, Trudeau said that Russia was upset about its men's Olympic hockey team losing out on a shot at a medal in Sochi.

Jean Chretien wrote:The Harper government wants to know what former Liberal prime minister Jean Chretien said in his meeting Thursday (May 2015) with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow.
The former Liberal prime minister said Putin's involvement in the Middle Eastern conflict may spark controversy but that the West would do well to accept the support.
"If Putin wants to help he should be welcomed," said Chretien, who was in Vancouver on Thursday to lend his star power to the Liberal party's British Columbia campaign.
"I met Putin. He's a tough guy. He's clear minded. But to run Russia you cannot be a pussycat. They play hockey very rough in the corners.''
Just yesterday Chretien said this....
Chretien wrote:Chretien says he is hopeful Justin Trudeau will engage in a dialogue with a variety of international leaders, including Russian President Vladimir Putin.
During an interview with CTV's Question Period, Chretien suggested the incoming prime minister's father, Pierre Elliott Trudeau, maintained an open approach when speaking to world leaders including Cuba's Fidel Castro.
Chretien said he would advise Justin Trudeau to "talk to everybody."
Outgoing prime minister Stephen Harper brought out tough rhetoric with Putin over the crisis in the Ukraine but Chretien questions about much effect that had.
Chretien suggested Putin probably didn't lose much sleep over anything Harper said.
Chretien also said Canada should re-open an embassy in Iran.
The outgoing Conservative government moved to cut ties with Iran in Sept. 2012 and cited it as the "most significant threat to global peace and security in the world."
Yet the most important factor might be Trudeau's younger brother, Alexandre Trudeau....
At birth, he was given the nickname "Sacha" (the Russian diminutive of Alexander) in recognition of his father's love of Russian literature and culture. The name also is linked to former Soviet ambassador to Canada and family friend Alexander Yakovlev.
While attending McGill, Alexandre joined the Canadian Forces but released voluntarily before completing his training as an armoured officer. Following graduation, he traveled to West Africa to produce his first documentary: Liberia, the Secret War (1998). Trudeau produced documentaries for Canadian television. In 2003, he was one of the highest-profile Canadian journalists covering the 2003 invasion of Iraq, producing a documentary film for the CTV program W5, Embedded in Baghdad.
In June 2005, Trudeau focused attention on what he said were the implications for civil liberties in the Canadian government's use of security certificates to detain indefinitely, without trial, suspected terrorists based on secret evidence.
Alexandre Trudeau attracted controversy in August 2006 for an article he penned praising Fidel Castro's Cuba.
Alexander has eschewed partisan politics, he has been known to champion lefty causes: opposing Canadian intervention in Afghanistan, decrying the Israeli blockage of Gaza. Trudeau offered to be a surety for Hassan Almrei, a Syrian refugee held in a Canadian jail for four years without any charges being laid.
Who knows how this all plays out - but unlike the Harper years there is a least some hope for sanity as their is a Liberal tradition of treating Russia with some dignity.
