Minecraft for the Holidays Empty Minecraft for the Holidays

I am thinking that we should set up a Minecraft server for the holidays. It looks like forge 1.8 is out and there are a fair number of mods available for it now. Maybe we should discuss what mods we would like to have included?

I will always push for Archimedes' Ships. You can now make submarines which strikes me as appealing.

Here is a link to some mods for 1.8.

I always like animals, plants, and different types of rocks/ores. Just not too many and too easy to find them. Some of the previous mods make it way too easy to find rare and unusual ores.

Oh wow that looks cool.

I'm guessing you guys play on the PC? Ive been playing on the PS3 for that past year offline and I have been going insane with building pyramids and minecart routes.

I built one pyramid 100 x 100 blocks out of nertherock and set it on fire. The unexpected cool thing that happened was when I went inside it gave kind of Star-field effect.

We do play on the PC and the mods add enough extra content to keep it interesting. It is such a simple game but you can have a lot of fun with it. We have built some pretty cool structures when we last played. I don't know the height of them but we had a nice lighthouse going and a few good compounds. If you have a PC that can run it you are welcome to join us when I get the server up and running again.

I've got 1.8.0 downloaded and I'm checking out mods.

The Forge version is 1.8.8 is that OK?

I think so but I haven't looked into it yet. I can only assume the mods run on 1.8 and up but I don't know yet

Are the mods working for 1.8.8? After looking at it again I am wondering if we should be using an earlier version of forge like 1.8?

The other option is to use 1.7.10 again. The tick lags were mostly caused by forge and there may be more stable versions of it available now.

Also mods like fastcraft seem to help with tick lags for both 1.7.10 and 1.8+

I finished my exams today and took a little time to experiment with Minecraft. I have a server going and have been playing around with some mods to find out which ones I'd like to have in.

Seems pretty simple and it seems to be running well. Of course I have only run the server locally but there was no lagging. We will have to give it a proper test run.

since I only play on the ps3... I decided to record my world and post it on youtube. This was all built in survivor mode. This mine cart track pretty much circles the map.

It's pretty neat how you can put music in right after you upload the video.

That is a incredibly impressive mine cart track! I have barely used them at all so far.

ya... I started to realize that Mincraft is only as cool as the incredibly epic something that you want to build.. Hence the really big pyramids, really long railway, insanely huge mine. My mine in that world spreads over the whole map. I made that waterfall in the beginning of the video. Just the waterfall tho... that mountain was like that so I thought it needed a waterfall over it. I also built in some push blocks with redstone switches to open and close the flow of water to make the waterfall more animated from a far but the water physics is so stupid in that game. I have a picture somewhere where I blocked like half the water flow but it was still coalescing halfway down the falls. Looked so stupid.

I'm finally glad someone is witnessing my work in this game. I'm gonna make some more videos.

We have built a few pretty sweet structures while playing. We built a lighthouse that was pretty sweet, or a giant map room that was getting a bit to large but was awesome, or a huge wooden boat inside a massive stone boathouse. If we get those worlds opened up again I will take some screenshots and put them up.

The mods add a lot to the game. It can make it fun to explore again and so many more things to build.

Do you have a PC that can run mine craft with a few mods?

I doubt it. I'm using a laptop that I bought off my old roomate for $60 bucks... It plays video but not 1080 stuff. I might be able to play but I doubt it. I guess I can look into it.

Anywho, Here is another video of my crib and inside the Fire Pyramid. The floor of my house is obsidian. I didn't mine it, I laid it by getting lava then dousing it with water. It was quite the process.

And The Lava Field... What else would you put in a pyramid of fire?? And you can see the neat effect the fire on the outside has on the inside. Neat star field. Glad it shows up in the video.

It was trying to run minecraft that finally got us to replace our hand-me-down computer (also it would also only intermittently turn on - sometimes it would just wait hours before deciding to turn on). You might be able to run it, I was surprised that we could last year.

Building megaprojects in survival mode seem crazy - but walking by lava without guard rails is insane, you were walking beside the lava! Inside the pyramid would be super-hot but that view of the reflected fires in the ceiling was worth it. I would replace the Minecraft music with your choice.

The only things I can remember building are a cool lighthouse (working way up high is nerve wracking) and paving roads over long stretches of wasteland.

I have become quite skilled with the handling of lava. I have many techniques. It's all because of my mine. When I would hit a lava pocket I would have to assess the situation and handle it accordingly. The main tunnels have to go through.. no if ands or buts. So I decided to make lava my bitch. I made all those lava pools in the fire pyramid cuz I needed to light it somehow or monsters would forever spawn there. And it's not the lava reflecting off the pyramid... it's the fire on the outside coming in by way of improper coding or something that's not supposed to happen.
