Listening to Steph's stories from inside the school system I was surprised at the sheer amount of 'gaming' where students ended up that was occurring at all levels.

Schools fighting to stop students with learning difficulties from changing school until a certain date so they could get the extra govt. cash. Schools passing other problematic students around like hot potatoes despite the student's desperate need for stability in some aspect of their life. Parents convinced of 100 wrong ideas about what schooling can do. All the wrong parents deciding to home-school. One kid with very pushy parents taking 85% of the disability resources in a school. Kids with no parental involvement falling through crack after crack after crack.

'Sameness' is a great abstraction to support pet ideologies but nature does what it wants. Most of the field of child developmental psychology is about sorting children according to their cognitive abilities. There are kids with autism, chromosomal defects, major birth problems, and/or no family to raise them. Most of these kids will never "compete in the labor market" so our society barely wants to acknowledge they exist. And this brings us to the great liberal taboo on debating cultural, gender and racial 'sameness'...

I'll let Steph tell any stories of working with the Catholic board - all wild eyes, heavy make-up, strange citizen oaths ...but cool statues.

I'd be curious to know what your were reading up on French Immersion for?
