CBC Hamilton's 10 best union songs
Here is a Labour Day music special from a CBC journalist who moved from Newfoundland to Hamilton.
The article quotes a Winnipeg musician who comments that his union songs "[are] my way of pointing out that we have a colourful and acrimonious history that should be remembered and learned from." I like the phrase "colourful and acrimonious", it has that earthy human smell.
Labour history is truly the largest 'conspiracy theory' out there, it is continually erased, painted over, damned as 'class warfare' and, most often, utterly drowned out in a tidal of corporate media. These songs are treasures reminding us of our own history.
