John Oliver - Democratic Convention

I watched John Oliver's coverage of the Democratic Convention and it was terrible. In my opinion it destroyed his reputation as a political analyst.

As Bill Hicks would say, ". . . everything you say is suspect, and every word that comes out of your mouth is now like a turd falling into my drink."

Maybe I am being a bit too harsh but I wanted a serious critique of Hillary's run, and it just never came.

I watched it too - just to see if he would be brave enough to point out the monstrosity of war-mongering that the Democratic convention was.... and he had 3 bits attacking Trump.

The Convention was like something the Republicans would have run under Bush Jr., full of odes to militarism, the sacrifice of soldiers, 'keeping America safe', every single speakers closed with the lines 'God Bless America'. It was a 1984-ish nightmare. Oliver had to say something, but he didn't.

I never except much from corporate-paid media people, so I'm not as shocked, but it showed the clear limit to Oliver's comedy. The Daily Show had the same problem.

The best thing written about the Democrat's convention was written by Lois Lane, well actually the Canadian actress who played Lois Lane, Margot Kidder.  Kidder was actually a friend of Hunter Thompson and she carries on his spirit - but in her own way. She still has the fire of compassion in her belly and I have nothing but respect for her. Read her words: My Fellow Americans: We Are Fools

Margot Kidder's article was amazing! It didn't hold much back and that is something that is dearly needed. That should part of every speech given everywhere but substitute Canadian for their nationality, so that people are reminded of it everyday.

I absolutely agree with your comment on that article. I feel like Trump is a vote for internal chaos and destruction and Clinton is a vote for external chaos and destruction. We know Clinton will continue to kill and wage wars and they are not being shy about it either. Trump we don't know what he will do but so far he has had a far more anti war stance than any recent presidential candidate. I suspect he will destroy America internally though. And as far as I am concerned the sickness should be contained. I'd rather see America keeps it problems in its own borders than see more bombing campaigns.
